Blue topaz is the state gemstone of the US state of Texas. Naturally occurring blue topaz is quite rare. Typically, colorless, gray or pale yellow and blue material is heat treated and irradiated to produce a more desired darker blue.
Tanzanite is pleochroic, which means that
it shows different colors depending on the viewing angle. In order to get the
preferred blue or violet-blue hue, gem cutters must properly orient tanzanite
gemstones. The vivid blue of tanzanite can rival fine sapphire and makes
tanzanite an extremely desirable gemstone. This attractive color is so sought
after that tanzanite is routinely heated to enhance fine blue and violet hues and
minimize the less desirable brownish tones.
The Romans admired moonstone and believed
that it came from the rays of the moon made solid. Moonstones have been used as
jewels for hundreds of years. They were admired by the ancient Romans and
Greeks, and then were used in Art Nouveau jewelry. Moonstones later became
popular during the hippie movement of the 1960s and the contemporary New Age spiritual
movement
Onyx is black and white banded agate
(cryptocrystalline or chalcedony quartz). It should not to be confused with
onyx marble, which is limestone. The banding of onyx is parallel and
consistent. Some varieties of onyx differ in color, such as sard onyx, which
has a brown base and white upper layer, cornelian onyx, which has a red base
and white upper layer, and niccolo onyx, which has a very thin upper layer,
allowing the black base color to show through as grey or blue. Onyx takes its
name from the Greek word "onyx", which means fingernail; this could
be due to a Greek legend, in which Eros mischievously cut the fingernails of
Aphrodite with an arrowhead whilst she slept, and the gods turned the clippings
into stone.
Chalcedony is a demure crystal, subtle and mystic, cool and serene, ethereal yet solid. It has an inviting, softblue translucence, and an almost imperceptible movement within the stone that invokes a stillness of silent reverence. It's calming, and speaks of spirit and trust
